How to Correct Errors On Your Credit Report
If you find errors on your credit report, don't be afraid to dispute them. Remember that you are entitled to one free copy of your credit report a year from the 3 main credit bureaus. When you receive your credit report, examine it carefully. Keep in mind the account balances they show and the account balances you have may differ due to a payment not posting before they sent you the report.
Also remember that not every creditor will report your account to each credit bureau so an account may only show up on one or two of the reports but not on the other.

Disputing Information On Your Credit Report
Any disputes must be made in writing and sent through regular postal mail. In your letter you will want to include things like:
- A detailed explanation as to why the information on your report is inaccurate and what the accurate information should be.
- Documentation that supports your accurate information and shows the information on the credit report to be wrong.
Be sure that you send letters to all three credit bureaus. Keep copies of everything for yourself. By Federal law, a credit reporting agency must help you resolve any errors on your credit report within 30 days. Remember that this will take some time, but it will be worth it in the long run.
